Shogun Y is a music project by composer and producer Gerhard Lehndorff. At its heart are melodic songs that combine different musical styles and sound worlds. Each album reveals another side of the project, held together by a shared musical signature and the recurring image of the dragon.

Music Across Decades

Some of the compositions were written several decades ago. Some songs are being released for the first time through Shogun Y, while others are given a new musical form. In this way, the project combines earlier ideas with today’s production possibilities.

Alongside traditional studio tools, AI-assisted technologies are also used in the production process, including for vocals, instrumentation, and arrangement. The melodies, lyrics, selection, editing, and artistic direction remain in the hands of Gerhard Lehndorff. AI serves as a tool for bringing the musical ideas to life.

Open to New Interpretations

Shogun Y does not regard the released recordings as the only possible or definitive interpretations of the songs. The compositions are intended to inspire other musicians to give them a form of their own. This is why Gerhard Lehndorff does not place himself at the centre of every song as the vocalist. What matters most is the melody, the song itself, and what different performers can bring to it.
